The Amazons (New)

The Amazons are a loose collective of wandering tribes which travel across the plains and forests of the Amazonian jungle just outside the Kingdom, from which the collective title takes it’s name. The Kingdom has no formal treaties with any of the tribes, but does not restrict access by visiting Amazons as there has been no trouble (as yet). Amazons are either Battlestrider, Outrider or Wildshaper.

Amazon society lacks the basic educational level for magic. Individual Amazons can learn spells, but first they must find someone who is willing to teach them.

Similarly, Amazons do not generally have access to miracles from the Nine Principles, instead following the Path of Nature. It is possible for Amazon Battlestrider and Outriders to gain such miracles as long as they have not learnt any miracles from the Path of Nature and they can find someone who is willing to teach them.

Before an Amazon player can spend any CPs on any magic skill, or buy miracles from one of the Nine Principles, they must gain approval from the Character Ref and name the character who is their teacher.

Fabled Enemy

Each Amazonian Tribe has a Fabled Enemy, a group or type of creature which has harried and challenged the tribe throughout it’s history and forms the basis of the heroic deeds and tales taught to the tribe’s children. Amazons gain bonuses to fight their tribes Fabled Enemy. The Fabled Enemy is chosen by the Amazon at character creation and cannot be chosen afterwards.

A Fabled Enemy can either be a subset of creature types as listed in the Monster Manual, or members of the a specific Guild or group. The Character Ref should be consulted to confirm the choice. The playable races (Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Half-Ogre) cannot be chosen as a Fabled Enemy.

Example: The Prime Amazons have had an ongoing feud with the Trader Joe Universal Product Storage, and as a result all Prime Amazons can claim Trader Joe and variants thereof as their Fabled Enemy.

Example: The River Watchers are regularly harried by goblinoid creatures from Water Goblins to Trolls in their travels along the rivers of the jungle. They have Goblinoids as their Fabled Enemy.

Amazon Battlestrider/Outrider/Wildshaper

Requirements

An Amazon must

  • show discomfort in and distrust of static civilisation,
  • be confident in their superiority over their Tribe’s Fabled Enemy,
  • show at least distrust of all members of their Tribe’s Fabled Enemy,
  • never start a fight with another Amazon or other nomadic people.
Bonuses

Amazons receive the following bonuses.

  • They gain one free Armour Proficiency of their choice from: Fur, Leather or Reinforced Leather.
  • They can identify their tribe’s Fabled Enemy on sight without requiring any Recognise Creature skill unless the Enemy is using a Disguise Spell, or mundane disguise.
  • At Rank 5 they gain +1 Willpower, Toughness and Dexterity against their tribe’s Fabled Enemy category from the following list:
  • Undead
  • Planar (Including Demons and Fae)
  • Beasts
  • Civilised Peoples (Drow, Hassani, Dwarves)
  • Goblinoids (Including Orcs and Trolls)
  • Exotics (Anything not in the other categories)
  • At Rank 10, and every 20 Ranks thereafter, the Amazon becomes immune to one effect regardless of source. This effect should be relevant to their tribe’s Fabled enemy. No form of Dispel may be chosen.

Example: The Amazon Tribe of the Woodshire Exiles have been plagued by Wood Ghouls through the ages and have claimed them as their tribes Fabled Enemy. At Rank 10, a member of the Woodshire Exiles claims immunity to Paralysis as their immunity.

  • At Rank 20, and every 20 Ranks thereafter, they gain an ability they can perform once an hour based on their Fabled Enemy. This should be an ability their Fabled Enemy does, or a direct counter, and refreshes as a Weapon Adept or Spell/Miracle Mastery and should ideally be something the Amazon has experienced personally. If this is a spell or miracle, this cannot be cast down to extend the duration. Beneficial spells or miracles with a 15 minute duration are Self Only. The level of the ability is determined by the Rank at which the Amazon chooses the ability. The abilities are Natural and Innate. An ability higher than Casting Level 10 cannot be chosen. Spell Immunity may not be chosen.

Example: Restless Hunter, of the Woodshire Exiles, has taken to hunting down and destroying Wood Ghouls. At Rank 20 they choose Tree Recall 2 as their ability, to chase Wood Ghouls through the trees.

Example: Laughs at Death, of a tribe that have a continual dispute with the Temple of Death, chooses Heal Life 39 at Rank 60 to counter Ennervate, as their local Dark Brothers Undead like to begin fights with Ennervate on their tribe’s warriors to cut them down to size.
